Latest Austin ‘No Refusal’ Weekend: 18 DWI Arrests
Another Austin “No Refusal” Weekend happened this past weekend, timed for the Super Bowl. In total, 18 DWI arrests were made. For those unfamiliar, the Austin Police Department’s “No Refusal” DWI initiative means that if someone is suspected of drunk driving refuses a breath test, an officer could obtain a search warrant and force that person to get a blood test.
The most recent “No Refusal” DWI initiative happened just over a month ago on New Year’s Eve. Twenty-four Austin DWI arrests were made between 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 31 and 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
This time, the Super Bowl “No Refusal” Weekend resulted in 18 Austin DWI arrests. Ten people voluntarily took the breath test, seven people had blood drawn and one person is under investigation. The initiative lasted from 9 p.m. last night (Super Bowl Sunday) until 5 a.m. this morning.
