Man Arrested for DWI After Trying to Enter APD Garage
Early this morning in Austin, a 24-year-old man was arrested for DWI when he accidentally tried to enter the Austin Police Department parking garage. According to the Statesman Blotter, he pulled up to the garage’s exit gates, where he told a police officer that he was trying to visit a friend at the hospital, but his passengers told him to turn into the APD garage.
The Statesman reported that the police officer stated that the man was “very nervous and had dilated pupils and bloodshot eyes, which are signs of intoxication, according to the affidavit.” Furthermore, the man admitted he had smoked marijuana and consumed three draft beers, but he refused the field sobriety tests. The man was charged with driving while intoxicated along with possession of marijuana, two ounces or less.
What To Do If You’re Pulled Over for DWI
If you’re stopped for DWI, know your legal rights — most people have no idea how to handle the situation and assume that cooperating with the DWI cops will help. In actuality, cooperating will work against you in a DWI interrogation. Still, you will want to be considerate when dealing with DWI cops. Tell the police officer that you don’t wish to answer his questions, and you won’t agree to take any tests without your lawyer, Jamie Balagia, advising you to do so.
